Mr. M. Steele
Hamilton, Bermuda
Dear Sir,

You have probably heard [?] of the death of your son, Pte. E.G. Steele who was killed in action this morning while doing duty in the trenches with his Company.

Although only with us a very short time your son had all the qualities of a splendid soldier and I can assure you his loss is sadly felt by all of us, especially his close friends of who he had many. Canada has lost yet another good soldier and all of us [a very ?] brave comrade.

As time grows older and peace is again restored I trust the fact of your son who sacrificed all for his King and country and bravely met a Hero's death will somewhat assuage the anguish and grief you have to bear.

To you Sir and to your family I extend the heartfelt sympathies of all ranks of The Royal Montreal Regiment.

Yours sincerely
Alan Powell
