Letter

Witley March 3, 1917 Dear Aunt Annie:- Received your letter and the wash cloth today and I certainly was glad to get them. The wash cloth was just what I needed and I want to thank you ever so much for sending it to me. I'm afraid our winter was somewhat different from yours. Although it was terribly cold yet nothing seemed to be frozen and there has been nothing all winter but mud and rain. There was only once snowfall of about 1 inch and no ice at all which would allow of skating. At present the trees are covered with leaves and the grass is green but it is still raw and cold. This sure is a queer country. Our quarters are not extra warm but good enough for here. I just got back a few hours ago from Mytchett where I went to shoot my musketry course. I qualified all right but I didn't do very good shooting. We were there three days and had to march the 20 miles with our full equipment and rifles. But I spent two evenings in Aldershot town and had a good time. I had a "feed" of two hard boiled eggs while there, the first I've had in this country although it nearly took all my months pay to buy them. They are 7 ½ d. apiece which is 15¢ apiece or 30¢ for two. Next week I suppose I'll be signalling and then I'll take my gunnery or riding course. Hope to qualify as a battery signaller about June and will go across the latter part of the summer. There were quite a few American soldiers in Aldershot I don't know whether they are training there or were merely there on leave. I suppose they are enlisting in large numbers in the States. Well I think I had better close now Lovingly Ludlow
