You people at home can't realize how bloody this war really is. There are some awful sights. The Germans are cowards. If they would fight squarely, the war would soon be over. They use poisonous gas to overcome us and even then we hold them. Our turn will come soon. I'd like to see the Kaiser do a bit of suffering.

The parcel arrived safely and as usual the contents were a treat. Tell Aunt Ada I'll write to her. We are having real summer weather now and the trees are all out in leaf. I am in the Machine Gun section now and I like it fine. We get better food and I like the men I am with.

I must close now. Please give my love to all.
