My Dear Mother:-

Just a few lines this a.m. while I am passing away the time doing nothing. It is rather chilly this morning after an all night's rain. I am going on leave this coming

Friday a.m. and going to head for Scotland. I expect that MacCormac will be going about the same time and we will likely put in the time together. From there I will likely return to the Machine Gun Depot at Seaford.

Was much surprised on Sat. afternoon to run into Jack Morrison. You remember me speaking of the Morrisons of Wapella, back where I used to spend my week-ends. Jack is with the Fort Garry Horse, was wounded in March and is now at the Training School on a three weeks course. Milton Lloyd, Jack tells me, is still in Eng. and is going to take out a commission in the Imperial A.S.C. very shortly. The other two Lloyd boys are still in France. They are both in the Motor Transport, quite a safe branch of the service. Jack is looking well, and I was sure glad to see him again. I haven't heard from Reid as yet and don't know how badly he was hit or where he is located.

Say, Mother, if you want to send me an Xmas present, I would appreciate very much will you get me a Gillette Safety Razor. They are awfully hard to get over here and just now I am using a rather cheap substitute which is quite [un?] satisfactory. The Gillette have some special soldier types and I like them because you can carry them with you at all times. However, wait until I give you a new address before you do send it. I had better close now. Yours, as ever

F.C.
