May 31 - All night at work loading three river boats, the "Northwest", the "Marquis" and the "Baroness". Ready for our move to Fort Pitt. All on board at 9:30 and off to get after Big Bear. Had a good run on the Saskatchewan River all day. All three boats keeping in sight of one another. Got within 20 miles of Fort Pitt and snubbed to the south shore for the night. All three boats close together. Strong pickets put ashore on guard night duty.
