April 6 - Whole battalion named now "Midland Battalion", left the barracks and moved into the train at 10:15 a.m. About 450 strong. Left at 10:30 a.m. on Kingston and Pembroke Railway. Reached the CPR at dark and commenced our western course by Lake Superior and north shores. Three gaps of unfinished line to cross over; we will be a long time getting even to Winnipeg.
