March 31 - Off by 7:30 a.m. train for Port Hope and reached there on time. Proceeded to drill shed where I found Col. Williams, Uncle Harry and others I knew, also those of the company I was to be attached to, then at drill. Got on my uniform, certainly not the very best, and took my place in the ranks. Orders were to move east to Kingston tomorrow morning. Spent my spare time at Grandmother's and visiting old friends, but most of the time learning my drill.
