Dear Father,
Just a line to let you know I am OK hoping you are all the same. I did not receive that parcel yet but expect it any time now. I had quite a good Xmas considering we were in the trenches. I was talking to a pal of Uncle Willie's today. He was in the dug-out with him when he was killed last spring. He knew him fine and told me all about him. His name is Mackay. I have not heard from Archie but Aunt Nellie says he is able to walk around a little so he will soon be out of hospital. I suppose he will not likely be fit for France again. I'll close now, hoping this finds you all well at home. Remember me to all.
Your affectionate son, Ronald #157629, Pte. R. MacKinnon
