Dear Sister,
Received a letter from you lately and was glad to hear from you. I sent you my photo last time I wrote. I sent one to Scotland, too, and I got a letter last night saying they got it. I thought you were sending me some tobacco or something. I haven't got it yet up to this date. I received a letter from Ronnie last night. I received about 18 letters this week. I have been here at the front for six weeks and only been in the front line of trenches 6 days. We are having a good time here although it is a little tough. I am in good health and working every day. Today is Sunday and I work all day but still we like it. Old Fritz is badly beaten but I should worry he won't last long. I saw Charlie Nevins three weeks ago and Basil Wansbro relieved us from front line this week. Basil is looking fine. He had got a slight wound but got over it alright. I am only about a couple of miles from him. Well I must close hoping to see you all again.
I remain your affectionate brother, Archie
PS It's great to look at Sunday World that you sent me but it makes me homesick. I got a big bar of chocolate just now. I had to open letter to tell you. I had my paybook reckoned. I have $39.36 to my credit up to the end of February and I can only draw $6.00 a month. Keep it reckoned up.
