Dear Dad

May 20/18

Just came up from visiting Metcalf where I found several letters forwarded from France for me and one from you.

I wrote to Grannie from Torquay a few days ago. Max & I went down there Friday and returned Sunday night. It certainly is the best place I've struck yet. Florida has nothing on it for flowers & palms

We left Torquay Sunday 3 p.m. and reached town somewhere about nine too late to get any dinner However we found one place and managed to get something cold and afterwards went into the Regents Palace & had cocoa & cake. While we were there the Hun started the first raid he has pulled off since the last time I was here on leave. I suppose they know when I come over. During a lull we gained the club and went to bed in a - of a bombardment. I saw one hole about as far as 76 to Castle away from here. The papers claim four or seven of them which is pretty good I think.

Saw Metcalf to-day for the first time. He was in Scotland last week. He is looking quite well.

I am enclosing some cards of Torquay. We paid a pound a day for three meals & a real bed in the best room I have ever had in a hotel.

You enclosed in your letter a clipping of Lye who joined 19 sqd. He was in my flight and was shot down on his first show. He got down on our side & is in hospital now.

Take care of yourself & trust me to do the same. Where is Beattie now

Love

Gord
