[R.M.] S.campton Lincoln
Aug 22 1917

Dear Fern:

I guess its about time I wrote to you as I have received more letters from you than from anyone else. Received your 1 & 2 while in London.

Went down to see Wib[?] last night. He is in the hospital in Lincoln, about six miles from where I am. he looks weak but the nurse says he is coming along all right. You might call up his people Jeffery - 200 Geoffrey St. and tell them that I saw him and that he is getting along all right.

Had caught a tender to Lincoln about 7.30. Saw Wib about 8.30 and at 10' 00 o'clock Sharpe and I where in the Saracins Head Hotel. (See postcard) having a drink (No intoxicants after 0) when all the lights in the city went out. The alarm had gone: (a siren) The streets were black and we couldn't get a taxi or anything back to camp as there was a raid on and no motors were allowed to move. We stayed in town until 11.30 looking for a car but eventually had to walk about six miles to camp, and arrived a little after one. Could not see any Huns but could see their bombs bursting ad hear our machines in the air.

I have written dad four letters 1, 2, 3, & 4 You one and Grannie three 1, 2, 3, and have received two from you and one from Dad, also on from Emmer. Received a letter from Metacalfe yesterday. He had received a cable from Dad "Date of Gordons departure and destination? To which he replied Gordon left 14th for Scampton Lincoln.

What are you doing these days? Are you doing anything with the car? It can't stand there much longer without some attention to the batteries and should not stand too long on the tires. If you are doing nothing with it it should be taken down town and washed then put in the garage jacked up, the tires taken off and deflated & hung up in the fruit cellar and the battery given to the McFraughlin people to take care off and a sheet should be put over the car to keep the dust off.

I am enclosing some pictures, that we took at Hampton coast. I may forward a copy of each to Max so he can send them home if he wants to

Love to all

Gord
