Dear mother

Thank you for your letter I hope it hasnt been raining at Home like it has here it has been simply awful the last week here. I expect you will be pleased to hear that I was promoted Corporal this week, so you can quit using the Lance on my address, I was rather suprised because I had not been trying for promotion lately, so I think I told you when I was at Home. I had my Photo took the other day I will end you a couple if I cant bring them, I will try to get Home next week end if I can, I will wire you from Shorncliffe if I am able to come, I am on duty tonight, on [?], we were reacieved by the King & Kitchener last week, on Wed-nesday, it was the first time I had ever seen the king, or any King for the matter

Ive never seen any of those Drayton Boys yet, I never found out what Regement [?] was in. most of the Farmers around here have got their crops in.

I am going to old Mr Arkinstall one of my Badges before we go away, the old Gentleman came to the Train to see me off, & I guess maybe he might like one. Give my love to Emmie & all of them at Home I remain your loving Son
