Dear Mother

Just a line or two to say I'm still well hoping this finds you all the same. We have been pretty busy lately so I haven't had much chance to write. I sent a card to you and also a letter to you and Charles about a week ago. I haven't got any letters from you yet. Only a short note from Charles. I have got two parcels since my arrival in France. They were fine. The last one I got on the 14th. It was sent on sept 6th I think and was a box of biscuits. We were in a big dug out at the time and the boys all had a good feed it didn't take long to get them out of sight. Just now we are jake. Last night I slept on a nice spring bed. We are billeted in houses and it sure is an improvement on dug outs. I was lucky enough to get in first and get a bed. We cooked up some cabbage and spuds that were in the garden and had a royal feast. I wish you could have had a look at it. I'll bet you would have laughed.

How are Hannah Charles & Dad getting along. I guess the winter will be getting pretty cold now. Is Charles doing any skating yet. I haven't heard from Aunt Jim for quite a while. I'm going to write her a line or two this morning. The last I heard they were all fine.

Well Mother there isn't much to write about so I'll have to close with love to all

your loving son
John.

PS. I saw young Jimmy Calendar yesterday he is in this Batt. too. I didn't know he was here till I met him by accident. We had quite a talk about Ladysmith etc.
