Bramshott Camp, Hants, Surrey,
30/3/1917

Dear Mother,

Just a few lines hoping this finds you all well as this leaves me. Well mother, you'll be wondering how it is we stay here so long. We expected to go to Whitley camp this week but it didn't come off. I'd be glad of the change anyway. We've been here three months now. They say that's the longest any battalion stayed here without being broke up. Some say we're lucky, but I'd sooner of had my leave when we got here, and gone across. But I guess there's no room to grumble. But it's funny, one of the boys I knew at camp Hughes only came across on the 15th and he's going to France Monday. Joe will know him, Percy Schell, from Pelly. I wonder if I told you I got your box last week; everything came fine; the cake and the socks. I'm well fixed now, as I've six pairs. The ones you send are the best we get, as the army ones are no good. I do well with the other clothing, as we get a clothes board every six weeks here, so we don't go short that way. I wonder what kind of weather you get at home its a corker. I was wondering if it would ever stop raining. We had two inches of snow this morning, but it never stays long. But I guess we'll soon be getting nice weather. I hope it is when we get leave. Well mother dear, I'll have to close now, so I'll hope you'll excuse this short letter, as there isn't much to tell you, so with best love to you all, I'll close with love from your loving son,

Frank.
