Dear Sister

I recieved your letter the other day . I was glad to hear you are getting on well with the crop as it is soft on the swamp till late you can't very well put the crop in early I suppose ya will be planting quite a few threshing oats as for the wheat I dont think much of it I think the rats would yield more and be more serviceable anyway it would not hurt to try it.

I suppose you still have old rap. yet it is too bad you can not get rid of him or get a breast collar for him as that is all they use in the army but of course they have [?] on the wagons.

You asked me in your letter mercy if there was many district boys here the Bennies and young Charlie Qunell are not here yet but some of the boys from Victoria told me they would leave in the next draft there is quite a few boys here from Nanaimo Devlin, Dobson Griffiths and some more I was quite surprised to hear Charlie Stochand name called out on parade the other day so at night I looked him up I dont know we other the others are in it or not he did not say.

I get a letter from Dave's sister every week I expect a parcel in the day or so they were awful good to me I wish I could visit them every two weeks or so when I was up there they were all so busy they could not show me around but I went with Uncle John when he went on business but at the same time I only had bday it took me one whole day to go and then I had to leave friday night to get back by saturday night but we will get draft leaqve so I will see them again. I am glad you are getting on with your lessons as it is so nice to be a good singer

Our officer comm. is the Mr. Brown who used to teach the Chase R. school I would not wish to be under a better officier but we are going into a new company in a day or two then we will be available for draft I am going into the 7th Battl we are having an easy time now but I tell you they certainly drilled us when we first came over we were so tired we could scarcely walk up to the hut.

Mercy if you send me some chocolate bars once in a while it nwill be all right as we dont get any sweets.
I would like a couple of pairs of home made socks as the army socks were out quick

well I have to fall out for dinner so I will finish the letter when I come back rabbit for dinner there is some of the boys who have had more than I suppose Ben is satisfied now I wrote a letter to Jim a while back I guess he will be answering it soon I have had my photo taken and I will send you a couple just as soon as they are finished I will send the most to Sedgly Uncle John told me not to want for anything not even to money and always to come and stay there when on leave

Uncle Ben's son Joe is missing they cant find any trace of him. you know it is too bad as he nis pretty well up in years but he looks well in fact you would not judge him as old as he is

The reason you did not get a letter from Jennie she says Mercy owes her a letter if you answered her letter is must have went down so be sure to write

I suppose by the time this reaches you the crop will be pretty well all in what kind of wehater are you having at home here it is pretty warm now what is Ben doing at the wharf
with love to all Sam
