Dear Dad
Just a few lines in answer to your most welcome letter that I just received and was very glad to hear from home. You dont know how it cheers one up to get a letter theres days for it sure is lonesome. I wish they would move us over to France or any place to get out of here. When you write let me know if you were ever around these parts. The first time I go out I will try and get a book on this part of the country. I went down to the Divels punch bowl last sunday that is the place whear 3 sailors killed a mate the scaffold and chains are still there It is about 3 miles from our hut there was a byplane landed on the parade ground on sunday Morning it was a great sight for the boys we see 3 & 4 every day but this was the first one to land. I have not had my long leave yet but when I do look out I wont come back in a hurry 8 days at least You ask how I left things in Galt everything is O.K. there. I have nothing only my tools and no insurance. I had some money but lost it in the Beverly Oil Wells It was a poor spec but I suppose we cant [?]. They have cut our wages since we came over here my pay in Canada was $185 now it is $140. Now Dad I dont want you to worry that is the reason I did not ask your advice when I Inlisted althou I think you wold of said to go by all means would you not. I was called a D---- fool in Galt often but I notice there is a lot of young boys I will be able to laugh at if I ever land again in Galt. I tell you dad things look very blue over here people in Canada dont know what it is every man over here from 18 up to 40 is a soldier now. Coast towns and citys you would not know and the harbors are just one mass of transport and battle ships they have sheds built and are made to cover big guns and with one pull they fall down barb wire there is hundreds of miles of it it is a great sight they closed the railroads to the public last [?] to transport troops they moved about 170,000 it is not maney when you say it fast is it. I had a letter from Scott Bennett today saying there they were sending me a Box for xmas kind of good of them dont you think. Well Dad I will have to ring off for this time as fall in has just sounded so good Bye with love to Mother and sisters
Your loving son
