Tues. Oct. 30/44

Dear Mother,

I really don't know how I'm going to fill up this sheet as nothing much has happened since I last wrote you. I was in to Birmingham last weekend and met our gunners o.k., who are on leave there. We had a little over a day together, talking over old times and what not. It's possible the rest of the crew may go back to Canada very shortly. We went to a very good show called "Song of Bernadette" which you may have heard about. It's all about religion and makes you think if nothing else, after leaving. I also saw Mrs. Warwick who seemed very glad to see me again. She was very pleased to hear from you - especially you telling her bout the chickens. She had also sent you a Christmas card which will probably arrive a bit early. I had a terrible time coming back by train as it was so crowded. We had to stand in corridors and practically breathed by the installment plan. I finally got to bed at 3:30 and was very tired all the next day.

The Doc gave me another inspection to-day and says I should be out of here in another two or three weeks. I'm moving into another class tomorrow were the exercises are a bit more difficult. Am just getting over my stiffness which I had for the first week, so am very glad of that. The Doc also said that he doesn't believe another operation will be necessary as the bits are not moving around yet. However I'm not taking that as being definite. I'll have to go back to the R.A.F. hospital I was in before and have another medical board before going back on ops. I'll not be the least bit surprised if they decide to amputate, or something like that, as I told you before every Doc. I see has a different idea about the whole thing.

I had a letter from Judy last week and they seem quite confident that Wally will turn up allright. Mrs. Hawksworth and Ann are visiting in Wales.

I was downtown last week and saw "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", and enjoyed it very much. It was the first time I had seen it.

Well my dears I must be of for now. Don't expect the war to be over too soon and me being back for Xmas or anything like that. The boys say the targets are just as hot as ever.

Love to all,
