Dear mother

I hope you are all well, I got the Sweater today it is fine, just the thing to fit under a Tunic. & thank you very much for the Tobacco, I got a parcel yesterday with Tobacco & chocolates from Emmie it is very good of her to send things to me, isnt it.

We had very wet weather here the last few days, I wish you could see the roads they are something awful right now.

We were recieved by the King of England a few days ago. I dont know what he thought of us, I guess he thought we were a pretty dirty bunch, he wouldnt be very far wrong if he did, mud is the main thing out here just now, I never felt better in my life than I do right now, dont trouble to send me any more clothes but I would like something to eat
