Dear Mother

I hope you are all quite well, to day is my Birth day, I wish I could have been at Home for it I got the Parcel with the Gloves & socks in, the day before yesterday, & the one with the xmas cake in it last night.

We are being changed to from an Infantry Battalion instead of mounted Rifles so I will let you know, what our new name & number will be I would love to come Home for a few days.

I guess that the Boys must be awful buy nowdays, I've done more Pick & shovel work myself the last few months, than I ever did in my life before, if I come through this all right, I'll never be able to look at a shovel or a sand Bag again. I had a letter given to me from maggie, with a Photo of Margarat, the baby look fine & well.

Give my love to all at Home your loving Son

Tommy.
