My Dearest Betty:-

I received your letters 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 & 7 two days ago, we are on the point of moving back to the line so are extremely busy. Re the assigned pay I have made inquiries about the 5 $ less pay at this end & find that 20 $ dollars is the limit anyone below the rank of serg't may assign hence the change or deduction - however it will be as broad as long in the end & I will make it up from this end - shall enclose a pound note in this letter you will be able to change them at the Bank - you may imagine with what feelings I [?] your letters, all so filled with hopes & plans for my homecoming, but you will know now that it cannot be for the present, also you will realize the futility of counting any on the sympathy etc of the Military Authorities, that is not one of their assets out here, & as far as making an appeal to the Medical Authorities, that is still more hopeless, & when the war is over & the boys are back, there will be a good deal said, & some interesting revelations in regard to Army Life etc.

We must just settle down and wait in patience & I trust & pray that both yourself & Billy will improve in health - if anything were to happen I don't know what I should do - I do know however that no Military Authority would hold me.

You have had quite a time with the water fixtures. I hope every is in good working order now. This is only a note & I will write again as soon as I am settled again, or I may find time for another letter from here. About Dr. Sheilds it may be worth while just to write him to see if he can do anything, telling him of application already made, it can do no harm anyway. I fear that you are attempting too much dear in the matter of Ruby & Mattie etc, you are not strong enough for it.

We are still getting the snow here & the weather is nasty & cold. Let me know if you have any difficulties in exchanging the 1£ notes & what value you receive for them it is the handiest way to send money.

Fondest love to Shirley & Billy & your dear self
With hugs & kisses
Yours lovingly

Daddy
