OUR FILE R163068 (R-4)

OTTAWA, Canada, 10th November, 1945.

Mr. A.H.J. Gould,
133 Bowie Avenue,
Toronto, Ontario.

Dear Mr. Gould:

Further to my letter of August 3rd, a report has now been received from Overseas concerning your son, Pilot Officer Albert Norman Gould, and the members of his crew.

This report, quoting information received from an Investigating Unit, confirms that your son's aircraft crashed at 8:30 P.M., on November 4th, 1944, at Speck, Germany, and that your son and the remaining members of his crew lost their lives at that time. The report further states that they were all buried in the cemetery at Hoisten, which is located approximately one mile south of Neuss, Germany, and not in the Neukirchen Cemetery as you were previously advised. The marking on the grave states: "Here lie bodies Can/R201756 Sgt. Commins W.J., Can/J38717 F/O W.F. Moran and five unidentified". However, the Germans who interred the bodies, on being questioned, state that due to the severe nature of the crash, it was difficult to estimate the exact number of the bodies and that possibly eight bodies were buried in this cemetery. Five photographs were recovered by a German civilian at the scene of the crash, one of them bearing the name of Gould.

May I again assure you and the members of your family of my deepest sympathy in your great loss.

Yours sincerely,

W.M. Wismer s/o

R.C.A.F. Casualty Officer,
for Chief of the Air Staff.
