Dear Mother,

I have not written to you for over two weeks as I have been moving around so much. I was expecting to hit the battalion long before this but I am being held back in reserve and am doing work parties etc.

I had a trip back to the base last week on conducting duties and was away for about six days. There were two other old-timers with me. One was Alec Adamson. Do you know his mother? She belongs to the 27th auxiliary. Alec and I received our Easter parcels from the auxiliary two or three days ago. That is all the mail I have had except for a letter from Blighty. I expect to get an awful bunch some of these days, as it is being held at the battalion.

I am quite a long way from the battalion so I have had no news of Frank or Dad. I am liable to go to the battalion any day so I shall soon see Frank and find out where Dad is. Some of the boys who have just come out say Syd was looking a lot better when they left.

We are enjoying good weather and I expect we shall have it to stay as from next month to September is the real summer in this country. Outside of those months you are liable to have anything from a blizzard to a cloudburst.

I am feeling pretty fit and am getting enough grub of a kind so am not liable to perish by the roadside.

Give my love to all and tell Bessie to stick to that shorthand. If she once gets that in her bean she can demand the money.

Jack

P.S. Same old address.
