My darling: Well the war is over and honestly I can hardly believe it. I bet you're having quite a celebration "over there." I sure wish I was with you.

W.G. had the radio on at 9:30 this morning and as soon as he heard that peace had been declared he invited us all up to the Hay residence and gave us a drink. I wasn't going to miss and you can be sure I didn't.

The next think to look forward to is when you come home. We'll really have to celebrate that day. Mom said she was going to get a 26oz. the day you come home. I hope we won't have to wait much longer.

I suppose they'll be sending you to the Pacific after this, but as long as they let you come home first I won't mind so much.

Toronto is really going wild. Especially the school kids. They're marching down the street with streamers in their hands and beating on drums. I've never seen so many people before except maybe at the Exhibition. Gosh it's marvellous. I wish you could see them.

Give my regards to the fellows and to one of them I send all my love. You figure out which one. That shouldn't be too hard for you to do darling. Just look in the mirror.

Hope to see you soon, but until then I'll be waiting.

Loads of love, Hilda.
