THE STATION HOTEL
October 10, 1941
Trying to take a crowd of [censored] south but delayed by beautiful weather, but I pick my towns to be delayed in. In fact this is the town where they manufacture Glen Fiddick Whiskey I believe. In any case, a very good spot.
I have an amazing crowd to look after, including Cunliffe-Owen who is the son of Sir Hugo - a Pophan who is the son of a governor in the West Indies, and a Cruickshank who is a tea planter. In any case, a first rate fighting team.
Petty Officer Williams, who used to fly No. 2 to me in the old squadron, is with me too. He and I went through quite a lot last year together and he is back again in my outfit flying No. 2 to me again. I shall be well looked after - an amazing coincidence.
Don't worry about me - I'm happy and where I want to be and the probability of not pulling through causes me no anxiety.
But God, if you could see some of these kids flying with me from the finest families, everything to live for, wealth, name, etc. It sickens me inside and I suppose it's the same with the Nazis.
Hope you like your new car. Will be back to drive it soon.
