HMS Glorious
Gibraltar

Mar. 3, 1939

Dear Dad:

Glad to receive your last letter which I received this morning when I arrived back in Gibraltar with combined Med & Home Fleets after first part of early spring exercises.

We had a mock war off the Azores with Home Fleet - flying day and night and constantly? Wonderful experience and when the Home Fleet Fighter Squadron met us in the air - Gnats, we tucked them away and put them back in their hangars!

Many the unwary Home Fleet spotter we shot down in flames on our fightah! patrols.

Have a good holiday! You couldn't spit here at Gibraltar without splashing a warship - even the Spanish across the Bay wonder where all the money comes from.

Love

Bill
