Dear Mother:-

Rec'd your very welcome letter of March 31st. I have had three Jack Canucks from you.

Syd has put in his transfer but he has not heard anything about it yet.

I had a very nice letter from Mrs. Stunt the other day telling me quite a lot of news. I also had one from Jessie saying she was sending me a parcel for my birthday.

You need not be afraid of me getting smashed on any of these French girls. They are pretty nice but they know too much for me. The English or Canuck kids are good enough for me and believe me it won't take me long if I ever get out of this to grab one for keeps.

By the way what do you know about Jack Vigar getting married to Jessie Rogers? Florence Ewen is teaching school at Burrows. She'll be some dinky little school ma'm eh?

Well I am expecting to get a pass to meet Dad on May 2nd as I know where he is now.

We had a beautiful day today and had a communion service at one of the church army tents.

It sure makes a person feel blue to see all the officers going and the battalion is nothing but strangers but then that's war.

Well dear I'm keeping in first class condition and am having a pretty easy time of it altho' now that spring has come we are all getting restless and wish we were up the line but yet we ought to be thankful that we are still alive and kicking and there are lots of boys who would like to be on this job. We have got lots of work as we have to leave the forest like a park after we have taken what we want.

Well dear love to all.

Jack
