April 3rd/18 61 Cadogan Gardens, London S.W. Dearest Betty: Back once more in the old gray city, the throbbing heart of our great Empire especially interesting in this days of anxiety & crisis, so pregnant with possibilities, days which will prove to be destiny deciding for the nations & the world at large & upon which the Freedom & Liberties of the human race depend - I began my 10 days' leave yesterday most of which I shall spend in London, of course I am staying with Lady Tollemacke but am going up to Blackburn Friday & on Saturday shall go to Oldham where I am preaching on Sunday & back to London on Monday & Tuesday I may take a run down to Bramshot to see Mrs. Russell & one or two more good friends. I am hoping to sail about the end of April but do not know definitely in holding up everything, & one hardly dare feel sure of returning until you are well on the way - but if all goes well I ought to be landing home somewhere about 24th May at the latest. In time to plant the potatoes, eh. You know Fred Kerr of Neepawa he has been killed poor lad, only just got his commission too. I will try & write a few lines from Oldham, & a letter or two from London. My! how I am looking forward to the meeting & how long the days seem to be, I can hardly realize the truth of it all yet. Good-Night -dearest, I shall send cards to Billy & Shirley - fond love God bless D-addy
