Dear Violet.

Your letter came to-day so you see I am answering this one promptly. I suppose you had it all planned out to give me a calling down when you went home yesterday but I didn't show up did I. But it wasn't my fault I tried every means both fain and foul to get my pass. I was paraded twice before the Capt. But both times he was [?] belief me I will be home this Saturday. Your socks are lovely. We are working almost night and day in this signal business and exam on next Saturday as usual. I will try and get off on that train that leaves some where around 1 o'clock and go through to St. Catharines and back to Jordan on the 5:30 so look for me on that train. This is all the this time. I am waiting for the movies to start in here.
