January 22

Came aboard the Missanabie at four p.m. Got berths away down in the hold on a freight deck - had a fairly good supper on board. We pulled out from the Wharf at 8:20 with a fierce gale blowing. We were swept by several search lights on the way out of the harbor. Tom France and I stayed on deck to see them land the pilot - then we turned in at nine thirty.
