Diary

Raining this morning and trenches very muddy. Not very cold, but disagreeable. Advised of relief tonight. On duty early morning to stand down. Then on again at 5 P.M. Trenches anywhere up to 6" deep with mud and water. Cleared up some in afternoon. 1st Bn. Ont. relieved us at 10:20. I got away with No. 3 at 10:30 and walked until 2:30, rested twice for 5 minutes. First 3 miles very heavy going but later found good roads.
