Aug. 1 Gunner Lawton buried on the hill in front of C sub gun. Very hot
Lieut. Weldon left for England.
" 2 Made a cement platform for D sub gun, Very hot. Fired 50 rounds on
North Street.
" 3 20 men sent to rest camp near Meaulte.
" 4 Fired 200 rounds on hostile battery with aeroplane. Very good results.
" 5 Aeroplane shoot on hostile battery, good results.
" 6 Fired 100 rounds on Flares. Gunner Bell, G.P. wounded.
" 7 Weather fair. No firing to-day. Everybody busy getting in ammunition.
Fixed up an O/P. near Baxentin La Grand.
" 8 Fired 100 rounds on Switch trench. Night firing on same point.
" 9 Registered on the corner of Orchard trench an North St., 50 rounds.
Gunner Ross B.L.P. wounded.
" 10 King George and Prince of Wales passed through Meaulte this a.m.
" 11 Heavy ammunition fatigues. First reinforcements arrived. 12 men.
Gunner Ross B.L.W. and Gavel K.K. wounded.
" 12 Another aeroplane shoot on hostile battery. Very successful.
" 13 Weather fine, Fired 100 rounds into Flars.
" 14 Rained. Fired on trenches in the afternoon. Enemy very active. Shelling
batteries near our position and around Death Valley.
" 15 Hostile planes very active. Fired 100 rounds on Eaucourt La Abbaye.
" 16 C sub gun out of action. Dismounted the gun.
" 17 Firing all day and al night on Switch trench, wood Land and North Street
" 18 Mounted C sub gun on new platform. All guns firing on bombardment
Infantry went over at 2.45 p.m.
" 19 Raining. A few rounds fired. Night firing all night.
" 20 B sub gun out of action, enemy shelled in front of battery all day.
" 21 Big shipment of ammunition arrived. All hands at work. Fired 50
rounds on North end of Deville Wood.
" 22 Aeroplane shoot on hostile battery 200 rounds. Very successful.
" 23 started battery canteen in the morning. Began a bombardment in the
afternoon.
" 24 Firing on a bombardment 200 rounds all day.
" 25 Firing at intervals all day. Bdr. McDonald T.A. one of our Signallers
badly wounded this day.
" 26 Rainy, very muddy, lots of firing all day.
" 27 Not much firing, except at night.
" 28 Heavy fatigue at bringing up shells.
" 29 Still raining, very muddy, working all day at bringing up shells.
" 30 Still raining, Caterpillars bringing up shells got stuck in mud.
" 31 Raining, Still working with ammunition. Enemy shelling near Battery.
Fired 100 rounds. On Ginchy.
