Dear Betty:-

Another few lines, it is quite a little warmer to day though it is pretty cold at nights in spite of the oil stove.

I see you have got $20ºº again separation, I saw the Pay-Master this morning + he assures me that you will receive the extra $5ºº alright + that all arears will be paid up, so probably next month you will receive $40ºº in place of $20ºº, however if you do not write to Ottawa yourself (for I shall be away) + tell them of it, + don't forget to mention that my promotion to Sg't dates from June 21st.

Re Assigned Pay, I am assigning an extra $5ºº to you so after this month you should be receiving $25 instead of $20ºº as herebefore 25 is all that I am allowed to assign, + I suppose I shall need a little over yonder on the voyage across eh it will leave me with about 15 or 16 dollars a month after I have paid up my messing.

Your monthly income ought to be something like this
separation 25 dollars
Assigned 25
Wp'g Patriotic 16
Emerson 14
$80 total

I am certainly glad + thankful to think dear that you have this + that you are so comfortably settled + I wish that I could solve the problem of a companion etc but you must do what you can - I have thought of seeing Mr (Rev) Mattews or some one of our Wp'g Pastors - perhaps mention the matter to Mr Smally - between them they might be able to do something. I'll certainly do all that I can for my only desire is to make things as easy etc as may be for you. During the short time I am here + even when I am gone, I hope dear that you will try + not make it any harder for me than possible - try + not give way to feelings too much, + don't think of the darkest side, but see the lightest = Don't dream of the possibilities it saps one's strength of endurance + weakens ones courage. After all dear Betty when you think of how wonderfully things have turned our for us, you cannot help but realize that God has been + is very good to us = + the Lord who has blessed so bountifully will not forsake neither you or I in the future - (even though we may + do forget Him so often

It is possible (though not quite probable) that we may be leaving for overseas on the 7th Oct. The 15th I think is the most likely date. I am hoping to get about 48 hrs leave though it may only be 24 but however that may be dont leave anything to do - + we must try + be as much alone as possible, even if you have to tell [?] what we wish. I have not heard anything more about [?], + do not expect to, + am not anxious now for the position in part it looks as though they are not appointing one.

I wish you would try + write my people a line at home + let them know that I shall probably be in England the latter part of October we so busy here getting things in readiness to leave. Remember me kidly Mr + Mrs Gunn. Hug + kiss the dear kiddies for thier Daddy with best love + kisses

Will.
