Dear Mother:

I am writing this in my little dugout and will try and make it as interesting as possible. About two night ago I had a letter from you and last night a box which had the sardines and Campbell's soup. To-day is my birthday I hope the next one will be at home.

February 1,

Night before last I had a letter from Aunt B and that box with the turkey wish bone. I wished with another fellow and I got the lucky piece. Tell Violet if she made that candy it sure was Bon. This afternoon we went for a bath and clean underclothes. Don't send anymore canned heat for awhile mother as I have more than I can carry around. We have a fire quite often and I can heat water over that. I will close now with lots of love to all at home.
