Tues. Aug. 14 -

Bdr. Tooze went up to guns in my place. We were to register and barrage to come off next morning. Kept around the lines all day waiting for word when to leave. Learned in evening that J.A. MacDonald (the other fellow) and I were to leave about 4 the next morning to get to Div. Hdqts by 5:30. Were given an order by the I.M.S. to get money (100 frs.) but paymasters did not have it so we will have to see what we can get at the camp. Were given 24 hrs. rations. Only took bandoleer, greatcoat, rubber shirt & haversack. Turned rem. of equipment into stores. Were provided with horses and fellows to bring horses back as 1st Div. Hdqts is at Noeux-les-Mines on the Béthune-Arras road quite a piece away.
