Wed. July 25 -

In afternoon, we had a heavy rain but cleared up. The other two guns went up in evening and a great deal of ammunition. Had quite a job getting guns in. A trench behind gun pits which had been built by an advance working party of rounds of elephant iron and sand bags. Very late before ammunition and everything was attended to. A lot of our machine guns were firing not far away. The Huns were putting over shells, some rather close. Loos is right on our left - badly shelled and deserted. We passed thru Maroc on our way up - also deserted. This is Black Country of France - many factories and slack piles behind lines. Ground seems rich - oats and garden stuff well up and fine looking.
