Thurs. Apr. 5 -

Rev. 4:00. Some of the fellows had to leave early with ammunition. About 8:00 noticed much noise of artillery not far away. Apparently there was lots doing at the guns. A few of us left in forenoon to exchange our extra gas mask for a box respirator. We had to walk nearly to Ecoivres but had no equipment - even so was rather tired when I got back. Very bright, warm and sunny today - decidedly the finest day since we landed in France - roads dried up a great deal. In afternoon, grooming horses.
