LETTERS FROM OUR SOLDIERS AT THE FRONT

Lieut Hodge in writing to friends at Campbellford says:

The Campbellford people might send what is left of us some cigarettes as it is impossible to get any here.

Before you receive this letter you will probably see in the papers where my No.2 gun did some good work. I am the first of Canadian Machine guns to be mentioned which I consider a great honor to myself and to my men. We go into the trenches again in three hours for four days.

Private Henry Moon, who was wounded by a shell, has returned from the hospital all O.K. Private Scott, who was wounded by the same shell, will not return for some time as it went through his leg. These are my only two casualties so far. I think it is enough for four days' fighting. Lieut. Doxsee, who was slightly wounded, will be back in the trenches before you get this letter. Love to all,
HARRY E. HODGE.
