Oct. 15th, Thursday.

Came into Plymouth today and are now up the esturary at Devonport. There is a rumour abroad that a German Torpedo boat was lurking near Southampton, our destination, and that the fleet was turned in here instead.

We spent two days in the river before landing. During this time officers and men were allowed ashore on Saturday, but officers only, on Sunday. Mr. Craig, Capt. Thompson, Capt. Wainwright and the Major and I went on Saturday afternoon. We were like youngsters out for a holiday. We went up and saw the big guns at the training fort met several of the officers and had a chat in the mess. We then went to the Hotel for dinner and afterwards walked about the city of Plymouth. The crowds were immense and everyone was very enthusiastic in welcoming the "Canadians". We returned to the ship at 9 o'clock after a splendid day.
