Dear Mrs. Oprwood,
I am sorry I have not replied to your letter of the 25th [?] before but unfortunately I mislaid the letter.
Your brother L/C Newman was in charge of one of our M.Gun when he was killed on the 8nd [?] of June. I am glad to say that he suffered no pain and probably never knew that he had been hit which is always a comfort in this war were so many of the men are mutilated & have to suffer so much pain.
Pete was a great favourite with our Section and wonderfully cool in action. He is buried in a little Cemetry just behind our Trenches and received the regular services before being laid to rest.
Please accept our sympathy with you in your loss

Yours Faithfully
J. Capell Britton
