Dear Uncle Sol and Aunt Maggie,

Just a few lines to let you know I am well and getting along fine over here at the front. Received two letters from home lately, also one from sister Ona. Suppose you are working hard these days. The weather here is dry and dusty, and summer appears to have arrived. I am living under ground and have 70 steps to climb every time we go out, so it is some work climbing the stairs. I'm not in the first line trenches yet, but with a construction party at present. Saw a great many German prisoners pass to the rear after the battle of Vimy Ridge, and judging by the vast hordes of them feel assured that their numbers as officially reported were not exaggerated. You will know before this reaches you that the boys from the land of the Maple distinguished themselves heroically in this event. I received a parcel from home and it had about a pint of honey in it, kindly given by Mrs. Mtichell. It was certainly good, and her kindness in so remembering me is greatly appreciated. If you have any honey on hand please send me some. Once I get honey, I want more. When you see grandpa and uncle Arthur tell them I am well, and that things look fair to see you all by next Christmas.

Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain, your nephew,

Pte. Arthur C. Smith,

No. 739465, 19th Batt. Canadians, B.E.F. France
