Dear Mother -

Your letter received the other day. We are still here and nothing definite yet. Lt. Col. Roy, second in command in this camp, doesn't like the 13th Bde and our O.C. in particular and would like to keep us here I imagine. He says we are the poorest brigade in camp and our battery the worst in the brigade. But others who know say that that is not so at all. There are rumours that we will be kept here awhile, rumour that we will parade in Ottawa in a week or so at Exhibition time and so on. There is practically no chance of our going inside a week now anyway. So, if we pass through Ottawa at all, Gladys would be able to see me. The 12th Bde., I think, went by way of Carleton Place & Smith's Falls, that being more direct, so it is doubtful if we pass thru Ottawa at all. But, we may be inspected in Ottawa on our way so would stop for several hours. If the Bde. goes thru, Gladys is sure to know about it as Ottawa is more interested in this Bde than in any other. You know the whole of the 51st Bty are from Ottawa nearly and about half the Ammunition Column.

I received those pairs of sox from Brockville yesterday, also a letter explaining delay in sending them. She thought the feet too long so reknit them. They fit well now. She spoke of knitting another pair, this time with Queen's colours in them.

It is plenty cold enough here at nights now, but usually fairly warm in daytime. Several nights lately, there have been beautiful northern lights in the sky, also some pretty sunsets. I have had a slight cold but was careful and am getting over it, I think.

Best love to all,
Gordon Brown
