Dear Mr. Mackenzie,

I enclose a copy of our last letter from Hugh who used to be under your care.

Hugh left here a private in a Winnipeg Regt & went through the experience of a Salisbury Camp. Going up to London to try & better himself, he met Mr. Pisdell by chance, Pisdell was kind enough to interest himself, with the result that Hugh got a Commission in the R.N.V.R. he has been at the Dardanelles since May last with the exception of a few weeks during a part of which he was at Heliopolis.
He was slightly wounded early in June & was sent to the hospital at Heliopolis to be set right. As you & Mrs. Mackenzie were always very kind to Hugh, I have thought you would be interested in reading a letter from him. The original was written on several scraps of paper & on the back of a letter which had been written to him.
He has grown to be a fairly big strong fellow - was 22 on the 3rd of last month. He has not lost the - I do not know what to call it - of making kind friends.

Yours Faithfully,
E.P. Winslow
