Dear Mother,

This is the first time I have written you as ordinary letter since arriving over here. I am sending it Air Mail so please let me know if it gets there as fast as air mail. Enclosed is the receipt for the money order that I told you about in my last letter. Notice it's for 5 pounds and not $5. You should be able to get it allright and that will clear the debt for the money I borrowed from you.

We have been having typical English weather for the past week. [censored] every day so it looks as if our course will be extended.

We were in town again Friday night and I had the best time since arriving over here. The Scotch really treat us well. We got a neat hotel room and they served us pork chops and chips which is really an exception. We went to the dance afterwards and danced everything from the highland fling to a tango. The next day we went in to a place for tea and was joking to the lady about having steak and eggs and all that wonderful Canadian food. She brought us bacon and eggs to our great and happy surprise and explained that she owned hens and to come in each Saturday and we could have the same. We were certainly happy about the whole thing.

Walt and I received a parcel from Mrs. Hawksworth. She sent us a home-knitted sweater and three handkerchiefs. They were wonderful knitted sweaters, in fact the best I've ever seen. I would certainly like to repay her in some way. I mentioned in my letter to Marilyn that you shouldn't bother to send her a parcel. I wish you could send her something now as she would appreciate it more if it came from you. Probably a good pair of stockings or something.

There has been quite a bit of trouble in our mess lately. The R.A.F. staff officers and canuck pupil officers don't get along at all well together. The main thing is that we get quite a bit more money than they do and we can get things that they can't. One of our boys made some drawings all over the mess walls with charcoal. The C.O. has cancelled all leaves, privileges etc. until the guy admits it. He won't admit it so it will probably blow over in a little while.

Well folks that's all the news for now so long till next time.

All my love,
George
